About Us
Paleoethnobotany Laboratory
The MU lab was established by Deborah M. Pearsall in 1978. Pearsall and students conducted research into people-plant interrelationships through the study of macroremains (charred, desiccated, or waterlogged plant tissues), phytoliths, and starch grains. The primary focus of our research was the lowland Neotropics, but projects were also undertaken in highland Peru, the Near East, North America, England, the Pacific, and China.
People
Dr. Deborah M. Pearsall, Director
A paleoethnobotanist specializing in macroremains, phytolith, and starch grain analysis, Dr. Pearsall's areas of interest include South American archaeology, the origins of agriculture in the New World, and paleoethnobotanical methods. She retired in September 2013, and as Professor Emerita is finishing up projects. Departmental Webpage
